Friends Reunited taking unauthorised payments

It's not often that I start a thread on this board, but...

Friends Reunited have just taken £7.50 from *account-unknown* for a 6-month subscription. I had been a member years ago.

a.) Message arrived in my inbox from FRU saying I had a message from someone.
b.) I click on the link (It is FRU, not a spoof).
c.) The message displays.
d.) I click reply
e.) It asks for my password to prove who I am. I type it in.
f.) It says, "Thank you for your payment.

Erm........ Wot!

At no point did they say they would take a payment. And where they've taken this payment from, the mind boggles.

So on Monday morning I'm going to phone up the likely contenders, my credit cards, and ask to initiate a chargeback.

That's really not on. Storing people's details, and then asking them to confirm their password, then taking money without any warning that any is going to be taken.

Would anyone else have experienced the same? Would anyone have any views?

I just think it's a bit off them taking a payment by me just typing in my password to confirm who I am. That is really really dodgy.

Having contact with people who I knew 10-years ago is the last thing I'd ever want anyway.

Thanks,

Alison

Yes that is bad if that's what they're doing.

From... an ex friend of 10 years ago.

    Only joking! :D

Yes, it worked :) My heart skipped a beat :o

But this FRU. I may just let it ride for all the hassle it would be to sort out, but that is seriously dodgy.

To think that they have my payment details from what looks like 2003, and have just made a payment against the card. I've been through the Profile/My Account pages on there and it doesn't tell me how it works.

FRU used to be great in the early days but has since been *commercialised*.

So ANYONE. Be aware of FRU.

Erm... you are supposed to attempt to resolve issues with the company in question before doing charge backs... they are noted against you as well as the company in question so is worth following proper procedure

Did you actually have any form of message from anyone? Even FRU themselves?

With a CPA of cause they could just take the payment without you having entered your password however it seems odd that you got a "you have a message" email if there was no message what so ever
