My ACER computer will not boot ro work

I have and Acer ASX1700pc only 2 years old. Recently some very kind MS person helped my to get rid of some viruses, that`s fine now.
Today I switched the pc on and it will not work , it says no signal. My hubby tried the monitor on another pc and it works so must be something in the box (hardware). It did make a funny noise when it tried to boot it up. :(
It looks like will have to go somewhere for a repair, I just thought to ask if anyone know what the problem could be. Some part gone ? could I buy it somewhere? Could my hubby fix it?
Any idea , please?

You need a Vista Recovery Disc

Download and save this Vista Recovery Disc Image to a working computer.
Next, download and install ImgBurn(No need to install the ASK Toolbar. Remove the relevant tick). Burn the Image to Disc. Use this guide(skip step 2b)

Once created, you can use the disc to enter System Repair from the Vista Windows Recovery Environment.

If that doesn't solve the problem:

Run ChkDsk from the Windows Recovery Environment. Look at How to use the Command Prompt in the Vista Windows Recovery Environment.

This will check for errors and inconsistencies on your hard drive.

Enter the commands: chkdsk C: /f or chkdsk C: /r

Keep the spaces as I have written them.

Answer Y when chkdsk asks you if you want to check the drive next time Windows Vista boots.
  • Based on what you said it does sound like some hardware has died (this is especially true if you heard something odd, can you describe the sound?)

Am I right in believing you get no display at all? When you turn the PC on does it spin up and turn on and sound normal? Does it beep once when you turn it on (did it ever beep once?) Have you ensure the cable is plugged in properly at the back (I have to ask :P).

That's assuming that the hard drive hasn't failed?

My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

As I understand it there is no output the the screen at all so this is unlikely to be a hard-drive fail (not that that first post made any sense anyway)!

Can you describe exactly what happens when you turn the machine on? Can you hear the fan and the hard drive spinning or is it dead?

Could be power supply, fuse, motherboard, loose connections, graphics card - need more info on what happens, what the noise was, any lights?

Totally unconnected to your hardware problem, but did the kind person from ms contact you unsolicited, or you called them with a problem

2 years old - some scope for a claim with the retailer under the sale of goods act.

  • Thank you all, sorry couldn`t get on untill now.
My hubby has taken it all apart and gave it a very good clean an it has been working so far, but I expect it will stop in a near future.
The noise was like it couldn`t pull sort to hmmmmm, hmmmmm (sounds silly) the fan was spining. The monitor was dead although the acer sign apeared and went when switched on and then just orange light on the monitor and normal blue on hard drive. DH did read something about grafic card.
Do you think I should still so the recovery disc anyway?
    Thanks again

Um, it wasn't a foreign sounding person who rang and told you that they had detected viruses on your computer by any chance was it?
