Will my car fail its MOT?

Hi

I have a 2003 Peugot 206sw and its due its MOT next month. When I start it up the lights always come. When it was last serviced (Jan) I told the garage and they replaced the indicator stalk. They did this as when I use to indicate, the lights would come on! Now the problem as recently progressed to the lights coming on when I start. I have been driving around with my side lights on as this seems to solve the problem.

Will this make my car fail? All the bulbs are working fine etc.

Thanks.

Sounds like a duff Comm2000 switch. Or your car has auto lights...

What are auto lights? The garage said it was a faulty indicator stalk, which they replaced (and it cost me a fortune!) but the problem is worse than ever now!

Or your wiring is on the fritz. I had a megane and the earth to the front wiring loom had gone so when i braked the fogs came on and when i indicated it flashed the main beams instead. If you technically minded enough have a look at the entire loom from stalk to lights and check for any breakages in the wiring. Also check the connectivity at both ends

Auto lights come on automatically when it gets dark. I'm afraid the electrics are dodgy because its French. Not very helpful, sorry...

I wouldn't have thought it would fail unless they flash on and off or if they don't come of at all etc. If the headlights just stay on it shouldn't be a problem. Will be an advisory I'd have thought.

1.7.4 Check that each obligatory headlamp is c. not affected by the operation of another lamp. Reason for rejection: An obligatory headlamp c. adversely affected by the operation of another lamp
    A possible fail ?

Put it in for a pre-inspection or ask at the MOT place you plan to use.

Get the problem sorted with an auto-electrician not a mechanic, most spanner jockeys can plug in a diag machine, but tracing a wiring fault can be a real pain, ...no offence ment to any time- served mechs who can do a Sun machine blindfolded.

We have a Peugeot 206SW and it has automatic headlights which come on if it's slightly dark. This can be turned off so they only come on when you choose. Check the cars manual for how to do this.

Do you live by the sea at all? This is not as out there a question as you might suppose, I just wondered as we had trouble with electrics when living on the coast and much less inland. Wondered if it had something to do with salt laden air or just coincidence.

Your car will not fail the MOT if the lights come on (new cars will actually HAVE to do this soon) however it will if they don't come on.
