Panic over! Spoke to them today on the off chance it had been sorted - it has. All accepted and paperwork being sent out shortly phew! I have to say their customer service people are really friendly too and quick to answer - better than the people I am currently with!!!

that's great  i've never had a problems with the coop, they've always been helpful
  • Great news!

I know we had all said on here "don't worry" but when its your situation you tend to - there's always a little voice saying "it was ok for them but for you it will all go Pete Tong!" :D

Have just registered for internet banking with the Co-op so all looking good now - their people are always extremely helpful.
  • Hi,

Yes I had same situation when application was referred but was also approved a few days later. Interestingly, Co-Op do have a three strikes and your out policy for ex-bankrupts if you make any 'mistalkes' on your account (such as a standing order/DDM being due to go out with insufficient funds in your account) so be careful with your incoming and outgoings as I think threy are quite strict on this and you dont want to find yourself having to go cap in hand to Barclays for another current account! Anyway, glad yours isall approved now and good luck for the future!

This isn't just for BR's...it applies to any customer with a Cashminder account......although, to be fair, I'm willing to bet BR's and ex-BR's form the significant minority of Cashminder account holders, eh?

such as a standing order/DDM being due to go out with insufficient funds in your account) so be careful with your incoming and outgoings as I think threy are quite strict on this

On this point.....firstly, if a customer thinks[or realises] a mistake has occurred, then phone Co-op immediately...chances are, the problem can be sorted, charges waived....and maybe...if the reason was from another's mistake, get the strike quashed...I had that done twice on one account 3 years ago...not my fault...which was accepted.

Secondly...[this from 'orses marf'] if you realise you wont have sufficient funds for a DD, then phone [or do online] Co-op, get them to cancel the DD immediately.

Then set up a new DD with the payee.

If the DD is cancelled [I believe, up to 8 pm the day before due???]...then no bank charges, or penalties incurred.

[maybe will need some correction from banking experts on this one tho']

Finally...if concerned about watching one's incomings and outgoings, then set up a second [Cashminder] account, solely for the purpose of DD's, bills, SO's, etc.

This is then 'fed' with funds from the initial account, as and when they arrive, sufficient to meet the bills.

If this second account is not touched..[ie card not carried about?] then whatever is spent on the main account [card] wont affect DD's, etc.....[remember, if there is insufficient funds available, then the transaction will be refused....]
