Following advice on here I have applied for a Cashminder a/c with the co-op but it has been referred! What can I do if it declines? Why would it decline - its a basic a/c isnt it?

Hi arrowarra
Yes, this happened to myself and DH too. I applied for a joint account for us with the Co-op. I applied by phone and advised the very helpful chap on the phone that DH and I were going down the BR route and he said the application would be referred but it wasn't something to worry about.
A few days later we got a letter saying they were pleased to be able to tell us that the application had been approved.
Hopefully, this will be the case for you too. Try not to worry in the meantime - easier said than done, I know.

It is quite common for this to happen, (although it didn`t to me) as long as you are on the electoral roll, and the Coop were not one of your creditors I would not worry.:pB&SC No. 298

Don't panic just yet, I'm pretty sure mine was referred before it was accepted
If it does get declined, there is a basic barclays account that is br friendly but just hang on a few days for the decision0 -

Mine was referred to and I got accepted (bankrupt at time). When asked lady how come it was referred she advised its because we dont do a credit scoring on cashminder as with customer having bankruptcy / IVA on credit file it would be declined so the referred bit means that the application is manually processed and nothing to worry about.0
