in Credit cards
Hi there,
Firstly great forum and helpful advice from everyone.
My question is, I had Barclaycard Credit card for 9 years, never had a default on it, didnt use it much until last year when I had financial difficulty.
As the interest on it was ridiculous I took out Virgin 0% and have been paying off my credit card since, however I didnt close the barclaycard as some friends said, you will lose 9 years of credit from your credit file, is this accurate? should I be closing this and applying for another 0% for purchases rather than sticking them on this barclaycard while paying my Virgin?.
Thanks in advance.

if you are well disciplined then having two CCs makes sense
just use the barclayacrd for things you need anyway and pay in full each month; that will enusre your credit file looks good and you pay no interest
if you are in financial difficulties then the answer may be different but you would need to provide details of your situation0 -
I take it you don't have anything bad in your credit file that would prevent you from getting another card. If that is the case then YES you should apply for another card that has a better rate of interest. Once you have it then you should cancel your Barclaycard.
Your credit history won't be affected if you cancel the card.I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!0 -

Clapton, my financial situation aint great, im in overdraft in my current account with barclays and paying my virgin credit card. With bills, mortgage, taxes I am finding it hard to cut the overdraft, also got wedding to pay for as well.
