Asparagus - not many spears....?

There seem to be some reasonably good deals for 12-20 crowns, and it also seems to be the right time of year for putting them in:

One of the sites says 12 crowns will plant a row of 15' - not sure I've got the space on the sunny side of my garden. I'd have to give up half a raised bed or something.
They do say you can be cropping next year though.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Thanks folks for the replies. Val, that's so useful knowing to plant 10 crowns per person! We might plant some more, but need to find an area of the garden in which to do this. We have four veg patches at the moment and one is 'permanent, with asparagus, raspberries and (a shedload of) Jerusalem artichokes in it. There is not enough room to put any more crowns in, but if I were to gently dig up the ones that didn't make it, could I plant some more without damaging the ones already there? There's two rows of five. In one row, they all came up apart from one at the end. In the other row, only two came up but conveniently, these two are next to each other.
Mrbadexample - a WZ fan I assume! Me too.
