Lost Sky Channels - Error Code 28

I've searched all over the internet for answers and tried everything I could find that I was comfortable with, but i'll try here and see what people may suggest.
Yesterday a few of what I have experienced to be weaker channels (Sky Sports News, Eurosport, !!!!!!, Clubland, Magic, Q et al) started getting weaker and breaking up.
In the evening, I started to lose some of those and could only get in occasionally. Today they are totally gone with 'No satellite signal is being received' Code 28.
I have a spare box and tried that one, but the same issue, so it's not the box.
The weather is fine and my dish is high up so unlikely anyone has knocked it.
I guess my options are a new LNB or dish realignment, just incase, but don't want to pay out for this if it's something else.
I've tried all the turning off and holding backup as it comes back on, turning on and off LNB etc etc.
Anything else I can do before I bleed myself dry of more money?
Thanks.

check the cable. if you've got a continuity tester, remove the F-plug from the LNB and twist the coax around the inner core. test for continuity at the receiver end. (then untwist the coax and test for no continuity!)0

I'm not too confident with playing with these things, especially as some channels are working.
I may have to call out an engineer to sort it out although i'm not in all day tomorrow or Thursday. Last time I needed an LNB change they done it whilst I was out with no need to see the TV, so hopefully they can do this again.0 -

LNBs cost next to nothing to buy on ebay, but there may be some alignment necessary when replacing one.0 -
Do you think it's a box issue even if i've tried another box? I'd be desperately unlucky to have two failed boxes in one day
I've fired off some emails to four local qualified installers to get some quotes anyway. I wouldn't be comfortable doing anything myself.0 -

If you have some channels working on the box & some not with this message (No Satelite Signal being Recieved 28) then the transponders in the box are on there way out & over time you will notice every channel dissapear then the message No Satelite Signal being Recieved with the dreaded number 29 which means you will require a new box.
Are you within a 12mnth manufactures warranty with Sky or have you had a engineer out in the last 90 days from Sky? if you can answer yes to either question then ou will get a free engineer if not your loking at a £65 fee from Sky or you could go indipendant!......
HTHYou can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0 -
it sounds very unlikely but not impossible. can you borrow a third box just to eliminate that possibility?
it's very easy to fit a dish, and even easier to replace the LNB. Since the bracket is already installed, the tools needed are minimal. The only issue might be working at height if you are not comfortable with that.
Well, flatmate has offered to pay for the LNB and dish re-alignment in the short term and she's better off than me right now, so if this doesn't work, will get another box then.
I wouldn't be comfortable with the height anyway, so it's best to get someone to do it. Knowing me, i'd knock the other channels out!jackthenipper wrote: »If you have some channels working on the box & some not with this message (No Satelite Signal being Recieved 28) then the transponders in the box are on there way out & over time you will notice every channel dissapear then the message No Satelite Signal being Recieved with the dreaded number 29 which means you will require a new box.

I've had a quote for £45 locally this morning to come and replace the LNB and re-align the dish. Been with Sky for 12 years, so out of warranty and never had an engineer out (only someone local when scaffolders knocked the dish in 2006).
We'll see what they can do and if that doesn't help, buy another box.0 -
Local engineer coming out later for £45. Only one of the four I contacted to reply so far.
Hopefully an LNB switch and dish re-alignment will solve it, otherwise I am stumped.0 -
Fixed! Flatmate was home and he came earlier than the 'after 5' he stated.
Signal strength and quality improved and all channels working i'm led to believe:D0
