It would seem that the switch service has now closed.

    Maestro Alignment

MasterCard has advised of their intention to align UK Domestic Maestro (UKDM) previously known as Switch and the standard Maestro proposition into a single card proposition and have now highlighted a number of changes that are required as a result of these plans.
These rule changes are effective 13th May 2011
These changes will align the UK Maestro programme at the product, rules and technical level, merge the current UK Domestic Maestro and Maestro into a single proposition and decommission the Solo card.

Just to add me tuppence's worth, here in Austria where I am, MAESTRO is king and paying with Visa and Mastercard is far less common, only really done in by foreigners in petrol stations.

It is still a valid (for now anyways) type of payment method in the UK. How long it will last though who knows? Visa Debit seems the king now!

I don't think there's such a thing as valid type of payment. It only ever worked in the shops that accepted it, and it still works in the shops that accept it now :p

Now that I remember the "Maestro - The New Cash" ads everywhere, it looks like the banks voted against it. I think part of the problem why banks didn't want it, that it's not usable for recurring transactions, which would have been better for us.

Heck, even their site has a two years old copyright notice
