Spaniel balding nose!

My lovely cocker spaniel is starting to bald on her nose. It started a few weeks ago and it is just thinning a little bit. I have noticed her licking her paws and then rubbing her face much in the same way as a cat would groom itself. It's not very bad but It makes me wonder.

Other than this she is in fine form, eating as usual and up to all her usual tricks.

Any thoughts?

My golden retriever's nose did this a couple of months ago. Took her to the vet and she got a course of antibiotics incase there was a skin infection and also a plastic hood thing to wear so she couldn't rub it. I don't think thee was a skin infection but think the ollar worked as it broke the scratching habit. I put the collar on her in the house but took it off for waks when i could have her on a long lead and make sure she didn't scratch it. Hair nearly all back now. Another idea might be to look up aromesse - they have a cream called dermacton for itchy skin. I have bought some to use on her summer allergy when she gets an itchy tum but that hasn't started yet so I can't comment on how effective it is for her.

What are you feeding her as when i was looking into Wagg i did notice that there were reports of that causing bald patches.

I would be off to the vets for a blood test. This hapened to our Golden Retriever a few years back after blood test it was confirmed her thyroid gland was underactive. Apperently classic signs are thinning hair on the nose, itchiness and if left long enough thinning at base of tail and weight gain.

Thank you all for your replies. Ladymarmalade, I haven't changed her food so I'm not too concerned on that score. Moodymare, glad to hear your retriever is on the mend, I think I'll have her checked at the vets just in case. WMF, thanks for your advise regarding the aromesse, I'd never heard of them but I've checked it out and it looks like it could help so I've ordered some cream and when I've tried it for a few days I'll get back to you and give you an update. Thanks so much for your replies, they've been very helpful.
