Using home phone line as VOIP gateway

Is there any software that would allow me to use my home phone line as a VOIP gateway to the PSTN (public switched telephone network)? By this I mean wherever I am in the world, I could connect over the internet to my server at home and make outgoing calls (or even receive incoming calls) on my home phone line.
The advantage of doing this is that calls via one's home phone line are often much cheaper than via any other service to which one might have access when away from home, particularly if one already has a package of inclusive national and international calls on one's home phone line.
