Well, Tesco have a section in the order process where you can specify substitutions or not for each item - you can select from 3 choices : allow substitutions, substitute with [type item in box]... or don't substitute. I find it really handy, as some things there really is no suitable substitute for (my OH will only eat a particular brand of mayo, for example), while with others I would be happy to have another flavour of the same item, or a different brand.

A friend told me that in the early days of supermarket deliveries, she got a delivery where every single substitution was broccoli. Admittedly, she had included broccoli in her order, so perhaps they thought she really liked it? I would love to hear the rational behind that one though! "Hey boss, there isn't the right brand of shower gel available, what should I do? Just give 'em more broccoli! No cat food? Broccoli again!" :rotfl:
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

Not from my point of view. The problem, for me, is that there's no way to opt out of substitutions.

That's what I thought. That's why I asked them if it was possible to opt out. They said no.

    Yep.

    Well,I see your annoyance,in a way.That's frankly very poor.

This is quite an interesting article who faced a backlash when he posted unfavourable blogs about similar things.

Thanks for that information, that sounds like it would suit me. I'll give Tesco a try.

    :D

I've heard broccoli tends to be a problem with organic box deliveries also. :)

Thanks for posting that link. Very interesting. I'm amazed the lengths he's prepared to go to, to try to get Ocado to improve. If I'd had that many damaged items delivered I would have given up on Ocado long ago. Will do so now. Thanks to all for opinions and information.
  • Hi Catfish50,

After reading most of the responses to your posts I was feeling really sorry for you! They just don't get it to they!??!??! Your point is that you don't want to have to do the checking in case Ocado made a mistake. Also, substitution is fine for these guys who want it, but it doesn't suit you so you should be able to opt out. It's so obvious but the other people just seemed to be taking an 'I'm alright Jack position'. You're far more patient than I would have been so well done.

Also, I have an order on the way and have been substituted 4 noodles at £2.79 (total = £11.16) instead of 4 for the price of 3 at 94p each (total cost = £1.92). So now I'll have to make absolutely sure I'm not charged for these after rejecting them. I just don't want the hassle!

    Regards,

    Jamie

I might try writing "No substitutions" in the little "instructions to driver" box, if I order from Ocado again.
This note will only be seen by the driver on route and will make no difference.
