put this in the wrong section apologies

been lurking here along time, this is my first thread though i think.

just a general woundering relly about a few things.

first when you apply for a student bank account with over draft when do you get it (i have offers from uni's that ive accepted)

does credit history/age/debt effect what you can get or even if you can get a account.

lastly i have accounts with halifax and llyods would this mean i have to go with them or close them and open up a new account.

had a quick look for these but seemed to be about student acounts after you finish uni. thanks :T

You can open a student account at any bank - it is a bit early for the offers to have come out for this year yet but some will do an 'early' student with a small overdraft facility.
You will be credit scored whoever you chose.

You can open a student account at any bank and once you have an unconditional offer - most this will be results day, but I was lucky enough this year to get an unconditional offer - so when my UCAS confirmation arrives next week I could go and open a full student account.

I believe you may need an inital credit to get the overdraft loaded but this is dependant on bank. It is likely to be Sept/Oct.

Apply anytime for a student account and overdraft (Just make sure you have proof of study, As most banks will want to see this).

Of course, If you have a bad credit history, The chances of you getting credit is very small, However if your a new student whos never had credit, Then usally a bank will want to see proof of study (University details, Student Card) to makes sure you're not lying about being a student, Chances are you'll get a student account with around a £1000 overdraft, Dependent on what you can afford i guess though and what the bank seems fit.

If you have accounts with lloyds and halifax, And they both have overdraft facilities that are either maxed or nearly all used, Then you probably won't get another account, This is because lenders will see you are already in financial hardship which will make you a higher risk, However if you have both accounts with no overdraft on them, Or overdrafts that aren't really being used, Then i can't see why you'd be refused elsewhere really, But don't close the accounts, you never know when the Overdrafts might come in handy (Presuming you pay them off).
