Hi,

I am looking for a good hotel in Abergavenny in South Wales. I have never been there before, but going there to attend a few events. I would like recommendations on good hotels (it doesn't matter if its a bit expensive as everything is comparitively cheap down there).

Also, looking for websites which recommend any hotels down there and also list any special offers or competitive pricing?

Thanx

AMO

    Hello AMO

I think that your thread will be better placed in the 'Local MoneySaving - Wales' board, so I'll move your thread across for you.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Try the Angel - may not be the cheapest (haven't stayed there) but food is good and it is a town centre location - almost anything is in walking distance

Can anyone recommend a second hotel? I get the feeling that this hotel is fully booked up for a wedding on the day I want.

There's one called The Bear that seems okay:

    Any opinions?

  • The Bear always had a fantastic reputation around here, but someone told me not so long ago, the food isn't as good as it used to be - don't know if this would affect you. If you're thinking about travelling from Abergavenny to Crickhowell - how about coming back the other way to Raglan and the cheapskate option of the Travelodge (especially if there's an offer at the right time - we just got £15 rooms over Christmas there for visiting relatives).

Other options in Abergavenny itself are the Abergavenny Hotel, which I hear has just been done up, the Swan Hotel, which is in the same area as the Angel, or there are loads of B & B's on the Old Hereford Road. If you need any telephone numbers, let me know.

    Thanx for that.

I've also got a recommendation for The Bell Inn. Supposedly its got a 5* WTB rating (whatever that is).

I guess that Travel Lodges are a consideration. ;)

    Thanx

The Angel - Without A Doubt - Food Is Excellent!

If it's full, you could try The Abergavenny Hotel. It's recently had a makeover and they're trying very hard. The Head Chef is ex the Angel.
