I agree with Gazza and Lucifer.
Packaging can be exspensive, so if he can get the wrapping for free, why not! Other ebay people who buy and sell must surely use materials in the office at work to package stuff up!
I sell stuff on ebay and many people do not include wrapping materials in there postage cost!
Like James B said supermarkets will be happy to give you bits and bobs, just phone about a few compaines here you and ask if htye have anything they dont want any more!

Some things on ebay, like if it's big, i have seen things come in wine boxes, mashed potato packets.... anything really. Just put a colourfull carrier bag over it, making sure you don't have the shop name on it. It sounds cheap, but it works, and it's just the same as a normal bag. You will need lots of cellotape also. I recommended going to the pound shop

Try Freecycle. On the site I use, there's a thriving trade in packaging material. I put aside all bubble wrap, jiffy bags, etc, and am inundated with requests when I post.
