Snorkelling in Egypt

My partner and I are thinking about going to Egypt in March next year.
We both like to snorkel but are unsure of which resort is best suited to snorkelling rather than scuba diving.
The resorts we have looked at are Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and El Gouna.
We are looking for a quieter resort and are presently favouring El Gouna.
Any information it will be appreciated.
Thanks

I can't help very much on the snorkelling front, as I've only ever dived from Hurghada & El Gouna, however a work collegue has dived from Sharm and siad that it was very good, his exactb words were that 'the Sea was absolutely teeming with fish'.
Regarding the resorts, my collegue said that Sharm was great fun, quite busy, but quite spread out. From my own experience, Hurghada was OK, but nothing special
but El Gouna is one of my favourite places in the world.
Personally, I'd return to El Gouna tomorrow for a holiday if my circumstances allowed it !
This is a link to all of the dive companies in El Gouna (incl email addresses), mabye aske them what the snorkelling is like !

p.s. if the dine a round scheme is still in operation, that is 1 reason to go El Gouna on its own.0 -
Hi,
If you are looking for snorkelling then the place to go is Sharm in my opinion.
We went to Sharm a couple of Christmases ago and loved it. There are a lot of hotels to choose from. From cheap to expencive. We stayed at the Intercon
http://sharmelsheikh.intercontinental.com/shaint01/photo_17.html
There were more fish on the reef at the hotel than we saw at Ras Mohammed National Park. When we got up in the morning there were 5 or 6 boats moored just a 100 metres away, bringing people to the area to dive and snorkel!
You can even book flights through Travel Republic http://www.travelrepublic.co.uk/ or another cheap charter company, and then book seperate accommodation.
I did research on the other resorts you mentioned but didn't find anything comparable.
Sharm is a town full of tat. That said the food is great and cheap. Hard Rock Cafe, KFC, Chineese, Italian etc...
Our hotel was a 15 minute drive from the town and had a free bus a couple of times a day. And taxi's are around £3.
Overall it is a very quiet holiday apart from being in the town. But the town is still very quiet compared with most other resorts. I was happy for my mother to go there on her own on my recommendation.
Hope this helps.

Nice review Matt - my collegue at work enjoyed Sharm every bit as much as you did. He stayed in Naarma Bay in the Marriot and rated it very highly.

Thanks to both you you for the info. I will have a look at the links both of you listed and make up my mind.
Once again thanks0 -
If you're looking for a peacefull snorkelling holiday, may I suggest the Hyatt at Taba Heights. Taba Heights is a small resort with only 5 hotels. There is also a very small shopping centre. The snorkelling was out of this world. The Hyatt has a private jetty that goes over the reef. Jumping off the end of the jetty was like jumping into a fish tank. It really was incredible, easily the best holiday I've ever had.0
