All I know is that prices have gone up quite a bit in the last year. I was expecting to pay somewhere in the region of £24-£26 ex VAT to get what I am lookng for is going to cost £31.
You want something to last so be careful you don't go tocheap in terms of quality.
One shop told me I should perhaps think of laminate (if I was going to be a cheapskate was their implication). I'm getting mine from Big Tree Wooden products in Glasgow (also branch in Newcastle). There is a firm in Leeds that looked interesting but I decide I wanted to touch and feel it before buying.
I would visit places and not try to buy online.0 -
I've learned that oiled is also far better than lacquered. If the lacquer scratches, water can get in and mark the wood. If it's oiled, it does soak in to a degree and it will repell water. No doubt it costs more.
Spoke to a lovely company based somewhere in Shropshire recently. Think they were doing it for about £30 and it was a lovely thick layer. I'd definitely consider buying from them in the future, if I remember who they are! They had a special sanding machine as well that doesn't create dust - well it does, but it doesn't escape the machine at all.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We bought ours from Floors 2 Go about 3 months though had a separate guy to fit it. We were in no great rush to buy it so just tentatively discussed it with one of the sales people and left our details.
Interestingly we were phoned once a week with the latest (decreasing) price to which we replied that we weren't yet ready; until towards the month end we were made an offer that we couldn't refuse. I dont remember the actual price but I think it dropped at least 15-20% over a period of a few weeks. Worth a try0
