Importing Car + License Plate Question
Options
Let's say I imported a car that was built in 1997 and wanted to have the plates changed to a U.K one. Would they send me a P-reg 1997 plate?
Another question: (these are all random btw.)
If I where to import a car built between 2001-2009, how will they assign me a new number plate if the whole point of this was to have the first 2 letters of the plate represent the place the car was first sold?

The first 2 letters represent the office it was registered at. Therefore it would get a plate with letters from the office you took your paperwork too.
Not sure this is correct though.0 -

You can find everything you need on the DVLA website, see http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/ImportingAndExportingAVehicle/DG_4022583IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Yes, but if you can't prove the age they issue (or certainly used to) a Q plate. Not good if you have just imported an expensive classic car, and now it looks like a replica.0 -
The way it works is as follows. If you can prove the DATE OF FIRST USE OR REGISTRATION, it'll get the correct year plate for that date. If you can't prove the date of first use or registration but can prove the year of manufacture then it'll get whatever plate was in force on 31st December in that year. Whilst it may sound trivial it is VERY important when it comes to emissions testing at MOT time. For example, on my wife's import FTO, having the date of first registration from Japan meant she was able to pass the emissions test without a CAT whereas without that, it would have had 31st December on the V5 and had to have a CAT test and would have failed unless she fitted a CAT.
If you cannot prove the age at all, you get a Q plate.0 -
Are you trying to get a car registered on an 01 plate again?
Or just trying to fill up the bandwidth with obvious queries?
I find it better to use Google and then follow the Link to the DVLA website.0 -
If you play your cards right and pass a DVLA Official a tenner they may issue you AD01ADM or what other nonsensical rubbish you clutter these boards up with0
