Printer drivers for remote access

Hi
I've been having a nightmare getting a printer driver for my old printer to work on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Today I finally managed and am feeling fairly pleased with myself - but now I have a new problem.
Now that I have a working printer driver on my windows 7 64 bit computer directly connected to the printer, what printer driver do I need on my windows xp 32bit laptop so that I can print via the network.
My jut feeling was that it would require the windows xp driver (readily available) but it doesn't seem happy with that option. Should I install the 64 bit driver? It isn't happy to just work! (ie without me directing a driver at it!)
Thanks in anticipation.

You need the XP printer driver. On the machine the printer is connected to, in the sharing properties of the printer select the option to "render print jobs on local computer".
First of all though, can the XP computer access any shares on the Win7 box? If it can't then it won't be able to connect to a shared printer.0 -
The XP box will need an XP 32bit driver, not the Win 7 64bit.
Sometimes it will say there is no suitable driver (because it tries to download one from the Win7 box), so install it first as local printer (say on LPT1) without the printer attached - you can then install a second one to the network, which will hopefully use the installed driver.0 -
Have you considered that you could just control 7 computer (i presume desktop) from the xp laptop and do it that way?0

(Apologies as I'm doing this from memory)
Under the properties for the shared printer in Win7 64-bit there should be something to "Install Additional Drivers" that lets you add in the 32-bit drivers needed by XP.0 -

Thanks for this - indeed I spotted it just shortly before seeing your message. I tried this option too, but with no success. Windows claims that the xp driver is not suitable for the same printer. There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0
