Better to have kept your head down, I think. If you were on 3 months probation, and suddenly they realised that they had not assessed you at 6 months, they would look rather stupid to say you had failed. Not that 3 months probation means very much if they can sack you without cause for the whole of your first year.

Just keep your head down and get on with what you are dong and do it well. They can extend the probationary period for what ever reason and for however long.

Do your best, just remember, they can also sack you for whatever reason within the first 12 months.

Let's put it this way, do you realise how many people would just love to be in your position.

There are hundreds of people applying for one job at present, so like I say, just do your best and don't rock the boat.

Unless it means an immediate pay increase if you are pronounced to have successfully completed your probation period, then there is nothing to be gained from it. You are already in a permanent position in as much as you don't have a contract end date. To be realistic, that's as permanent as permanent contracts get.

The key is what contractualy changes after the probation period.

If nothing then the probation is meaningless.

Often it will be notice or level of supervision/observation, sometime there may be pay or other factors.

Then how is the probation period defined in the contract.

I have seen some where the probation completion becomes automatic if the review/notification of extention is not done befere the end of the poeriod, others require the review as well as the time period so can be endless if they don't bother
  • What happens if you contract for a company for 1 year then are taken on permanently by the same company for the same position. Would your rights be as someone who has worked there permanently for a year or would you have serve the 1st year again?

Your employment begins when you become an employee.

As things are now, any time spent as a contractor (ie self-employed or employed by a company providing your services) does not count to your "permanent" employment.

If, however, you were working on a fixed-term contract with the employer direct and then moved to an indefinite time (permanent) contract, as long as there was no gap between the one contract and the next, your employment begins as at the start of the fixed-term.

thanks for all ur advice, i dont see why they bother with 3 month probation when the reviews are not carried out.
surely they are not following the contract. If i didnt follow something in my contract then they would treat that differently , dont seem fair! was meant to be give a pay rise but this was verbally agreed so not getting my hopes up. will take ur advice tho and keep my head down.
