How to grow veg with no garden space?
I would love to grow some of my own vegetables but i have two little ones and the garden is taken up with trampolines and slides
even if there was some room to grow something my youngest would probably dig it all up before anything had started growing (he is, shall we say, inquisitive
)
So I was wondering if there are any vegetables that I could grow just in a couple of pots or something? I am not green fingered at all but have always been saying I need a hobby and if that hobby can save me money too then it is win win all round!

Before borrowing money from a friend, decide which you need most.

I would love to grow strawberries as my two kids love them and they are soooo expensive. Are they easy to grow? xBefore borrowing money from a friend, decide which you need most.

You can always fit some veg in somewhere. My little one is 18 months and digs everything up so I make sure anything that is in pots is fast growing so i can just reseed. I also take full advantage of all hanging space with toms and herbs in hanging baskets and I am trying courgette in a hanging basket.
Get yourself a mini growhouse/green house to give your seedlings a head start before releasing them to heavy hands but I find my little one is more gentle when he can see its not just soil in the pots.
I also bought some shelves off ebay to put in the garden to put pots on so the plants are up and out the way.
Have you tried planting with your little one to get them growing instead of digging?I find my little boy is more inclined to marvel at the plants if i explain what they are, what i'm doing etc etc
Sorry I'm waffling I think what I'm trying to say is get it up and out of the way and what you can't just grow double of cos you know it will get ruined.
Just keep in mind the picture of your kids when they are eating their first tom straight from the plant!0 -
Grow the veg, and teach the kiddies restraint. My daughter was looked after by my mum & dad 2 days a week when she was a walking 1 year old armed with a seaside spade. She had it so ingrained in her not to upset the veggies, one of the first words she learnt was "Stuck" after she'd walked on the garden, but couldn't see how to get off without trampling something.
The result? a child that loved veg (even sprouts), and was so proud to carry fresh picked veg into the house for my mum to cook, and she always cleaned her plate.
If the kiddies trash the veg, don't get angry, get upset - it has a far better effect on them.0 -
Salad leaves are good for fast growing and money saving too, also pea shoots and lots of herbs. Tonnes of things once you get into it, and all fun!

My wee one used to dig up the veggies too, but he apparently wanted to take a look and see what was happening below the compost. Once he saw roots and had pulled the plant apart he was a lot less curious...

one of the easiest plants to grow. I would wait though until early autumn to buy them now.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

Salad leaves are very easy to grown in pots as are mustard seeds, spring onions, radish, lettuce.0

and also the above are very quick to grow so would easily keep an attention span of a child x:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0
