Idiots guide to downloading music???

Hi I have just invested in a IPOD classic - I am going on holiday and would love to listen to it but I have no idea where to start with downloading music!

Does anyone have an idiot proof guide to where I start downloading?

Very grateful xx

You will allow a website to do conversion, and then download their product to your PC ? ?

I don't know the company, but it sounds like a very good way to download viruses and trojans.

Nooooooo, you don't download the software....you simply enter the youtube video link and it gives you a .mp3 file to download which is purely a music file. No viruses, no dodgy software, just a simple mp3 file i guarantee :)

If you want to stay on the right side of the law, the only way to get music that you can put on your iPod is to buy it from an online store such as iTunes, Amazon, etc.

It looks like Martin Lewis has set up a site where you can compare the prices of tracks from different sites: http://www.tunechecker.com/

Really? Are you saying that watching any music video on YouTube is against the forum rules? Because watching any content on YouTube technically means you are also downloading it. I have seen countless threads on these forums discussing how to download video content from YouTube so I believe it should be ok discussing downloading just the audio bit from YouTube. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If the copyright-holder has not authorised the uploading of their intellectual property to YouTube, then I think that it would be illegal to watch it - just as it is illegal to listen to pirate radio stations.

Also, I believe that format-shifting is illegal without permission, so if downloading the track means converting it from an audio stream to an FLV file that might well be illegal in any case... I'm not 100% sure, though.
  • If you own any CDs, you can copy them onto itunes and then put them onto your ipod.

You can buy music on itunes or any other music store...
