Interesting and I have absolutely no idea! For me though the pipe run from boiler to machine is too long, it would cold fill anyway and thus just waste water I had already paid to heat.

Been off the boil over the holiday - lost touch...?

Interesting that my post about using cold water to wash my clothes seems to have stopped the debate, full stop! And then that the follow-on re the dreaded Tesco vultures has stopped everything...........................Couldn't agree with you more, Contains Mild Peril, where will it all end?

Martin, I didn't know Tesco's funded the MoneySavingExpert Forums!!!!

Don't worry my views on Tesco are the same - I love the threads about people using coupons/R&R though!

The answer to everything? I thought that was 42?

You'll have to expand on this - I've no idea what you're trying to say. ;)
and with regards to the maintenance wash read the following http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/usage_2.html
Interesting and believable stuff - but I don't understand why this "maintenance wash" must be done with no clothes, nor why it has to be done "once a month" regardless when the article itself shows you how to detect the build-up of gunge.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
  • I am a domestic appliance engineer, the problem with using your machine at 30 and 40 all the time is that bacteria builds up in and on the door seal causing it to go black (the bacteria) to keep this away you need to do 60 or 90 at least once a month to stop the build up. now weither the companys have put some sort of chemical in the new tablets or liquid tabs i dont know. Also dose the wrapping desolve at 30 or will this get stuck in the pump? I always advise people to buy powder as this will desolve the best liquid if put in the draw will build up uder the soap draw and in time will cause the water to run out down the front of your machine also it lines the hose from the soap draw to the drum now this builds up over time and if you have young children with sensitive skin they may get a rash or you may feel that your clothes have not been rinsed properly if you must use liquid then putit straight into the drum.

Welcome to MSE Ponyboy and thanks for your input. So can I ask you, do you wash at 30 degrees.

I have just done 4 washes at 60 degrees after having one very sick 4 year old last night!

  • Im glad you found my imput helpful and no I do not wash at 30 I wash coloured items at 40 and whites at 40/60 towels and bed linnen. Unless of coarse the label wants a lower wash or delecate. I can see that people are saying about the power used in washing I have a Miele washer and seperate dryer and the washer goes on at night and I put the dryer on before I go to work so that its done when my wife gets up in the morning. Yes I do have a white meter and I understand that not everyone has one but the power is not so much in the washer but the drying prosess hope this is helpful.

I do all washing on a cool wash. I dont use separate fabric conditioner and use 1 tablet instead of 2 put straight into the drum in one of those net bags. I have never done a hot cycle to clean the machine out....I didnt know you were "supposed" to!! I checked around the door seal after reading this, there is a very very small amount of sludge, one square of kitchen towel was enough to wipe it out with, not bad as I have had the machine for over 4 years, and it does not smell in the slightest.
Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!
:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!
