washing at 30 degrees

If I run the hot tap which is next to the washing machine, directly after the machine had been filled, the water is very hot, even allowing for the water to run hot I still think at 30 it would have to take in cold water to get to the correct temperature.0

I know that our machine cold fills - the run from the hot water tank is too long for any hot to reach the machine so we had it put on cold fill. Miele got back to me with no more information saying that as it all depends on the temperature of the water going in data would not be accurate - I might ask them what the temperature of the water in their data is though.
I am still washing at 30 but did but towels teatowel etc through at 60 for a short wash. I agree you need to do some hot washes - my engineer said that every 6 weeks I should put a wash through at 95 to clean the machine - an empty wash unless I had stuff I wanted to put through at that temp.
Thanks for all the comments DKThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Latest reply from Miele:
The data is based on a water temperature of 15ºC.
We recommend a maintenance wash approximately once a month at a temperature above 60ºC. Do an empty wash with a "whites" detergent.
Water can only hold body fats and oils at temperatures above 60ºC, so when washing at low temperatures the fats and body can get deposited around the suds container which then over a period of time causes the machine to smell like a drain.
Funny how Aeriel don't mention that in the adds! I must look on one of their boxes to see if they mention it there.:rotfl:The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Not realy green but the other night instead of washing with washing liquid i used a little washing up liquid in the draw and the machine smells a lot less like a drain , wash was done on 60 degrees the amount of bubbles and soap that came out was amazing to say the least i recon its given it a good clean out.
There was no cloths in the machine just a work bag that was lightly dirty thats why i decided to try it. (bag came out great as well)If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Most hot and cold fill machines I have used only take cold water for temps under 60c and a mix of hot and cold for temps 60 c and above. HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

I nearly always wash at 40 degrees and yes, my washing machine started to smell bad! However, I found that by using washing soda as well as washing liquid when washing whites, and half a cup of vinegar instead of conditioner, the smell has gone away.0

I do nearly all my washing on 30 degrees and quick wash. Once a month (approx) I do a boil wash with towels in to give the machine a good clean through and the towels a good germ killing!!!!
I only use a tiny bit of powder and only occasionally use softner if I need something to smell really nice.

Still, I'm not surprised about superbugs, the amount we have been mis-sold antibacterial this and antibacterial that. Just as with overuse of antibiotics, it simply encourages resistance to form, and in the mean time, children's immune systems do not develop properly because they have been brought up in pointlessly sterile environments.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

It will only save water if the machine is heating cold water. Does that make sense or have I got my wires crossed?Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
