Gardman Greenhouse Panels

Hi all

Been quite some time since I posted anything here but I am seeking some advice ref a Gardman Greenhouse I put up last spring.

I am afraid the greenhouse was a long way from great from day one - the instructions left a great deal to be desired and the nuts and bolts were so cheap many sheared as we were trying to tighten them. Most disappointing was the quality of the polycarbonate sheeting - it is so flimsy you could cut it with a good pair of kitchen scissors.

We finally got it up and, although it was never very waterproof or fully sealed, it did serve the purpose and fresh tomatoes etc were enjoyed but then the wind came. We live in a fairly exposed bit so I had doubled up on the clips to secure the sheets but one decent windy day was all it took to blow literally about 70% of the sheets out and all over the place. We recovered most from various neighbours gardens, over the road, even halfway up a tree for one. 2 were never found at all and three had been run over by traffic and were completely beyond repair.

I phoned Gardman last November because all I could find in the likes of B&Q was a complete set of sheeting where all I needed was a few sheets. Gardman told me then they were sure they could sort out something if I wanted to get just a few.

Christmas then loomed and I did no more other than to remove the remaining panels to prevent them from disappearing too and it was only last week I caled Gardman again - this time I was told they only sell to trade and could not help me but they could provide a name of a company who would sell individual sheets - they did and this company want to charge £10/sheet plus £5 for delivery. Even then I would still have to buy the protective trims etc. All they supply is the largest size sheet and, if you need to replace any smaller ones, you cut it to size yourself. I would end up paying about £65 to replace a few sheets - I could buy a complete set of sheets for a 6x4 greenhouse (mine is 6x8 but all it is is longer) complete with all end trims etc for about £100.

I genuinely wish I had never bought it but now that it is there I don't want to go to the hassle of pulling down the framework and the expense of having to start again. I really don't want to but more sheeting as I think it will only blow away again next winter and I wondered about getting some proper thicker plastic cut to size and whether or not it would fit or stay in. Can anyone advise at all? I thought about fixing it in place with all purpose sealant as well as or instead of clips.

I have the base fixed to proper paving slabs and the skeleton is complete albeit even that is now at a slight angle with the wind - they are not strong.

It is a lesson learned that I should have researched more - have looked up a few sites where people review products and these seem to average about 2 out of 5 across the board.

I attached a link below to the product, although this was not actually the site I bought from

Thanks for listening to the rant.

I think you could probably get new sheets from any good plastics supplier down here in Cornwall I am pretty sure Penryn Plastics do them, so Im sure there will be someone local to you who will sell them. hope that helps

    I bought a 10 pack of 610x610 sheets a couple of weeks ago for just under £30 delivered. From what I gather, you'll want 5 sheets of 1220 x 610. They're £6.95 each here with £5.95 delivery.
  • if you are in the yorkshire area and are willing to drive then i can get some sheets of the stuff that they make bus shelters out of for next to nothing - they are used and some come with the odd bit of graffiti and burn marks in and you do need to cut them to size yourself with a jigsaw set on very slow (for a jigsaw lol) but this stuff is virtually indestructible and is the ultimate solution
