This will involve submitting drawings showing the plans, sections and details of the proposed works so that the Building Inspector will be able to determine whether you are complying with the Building Regs. These plans will need to be significantly more detailed than those that you can get away with for planning purposes. Most people will get the Building Control drawings done and use these to submit for planning as well.
Thankyou for this reply. I queried this with hubby and he said that it was all sorted. I mentioned nobody had requested that we need to dig to check the garage can take another storey.
He thought as we had paid for building regs we (stupidly) thought that our Architect had sorted this! Wrong!! Hubby dug out large trenches for the footings for the sunroom and I made him phone for the Building Inspector to come out, while on the phone, discovered that we do not have Building Regulation approval, I am so glad I read your post and brought it up or we could have ended up taking down a pefectly good sunroom!

Glad to have been of assistance. The Building inspector will also need to be involved during the building process, should you proceed and will need to OK things, like the trench bottoms, before you proceed to the next element of the works. You should be able to get lots of good advice from your local Building Control Dept.0
