OK, this might be a bit complicated, but my daughter keeps hearing things and I want to speak to people who know what they are talking about, instead of hearsay.
I am on disability benefits, incapacity benefit, and I also get housing and council tax benefits, but my daughter would like to work part time to get a bit of money for herself to save for going to Uni in Sept. 2012.
I am on sickness benefits in between operations - Don't ask, very long story, now up to 39th!!!
But the p/t money she earns I presume will affect my benefits, so I am wondering, does it really or what???
I think she wants to work about 8 hours a week.
Any offers of advice most welcome.

If you are receiving child tax credits for your daughter she can work and it won't affect your benefits because she's still a dependant child, i'm sure she can work up to 24 hours before it possibly could affect anything.
I recall telling tax credits a few years ago that my 18 year old daughter was working 16 hours and they said they weren't interested due to her still being in full time education.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
As allen35 says, you should be OK if your daughter is in full-time, non-advanced education. However, you have been a bit vague about your benefits. There is no such benefit specifically called "disability benefit" and there hasn't been any sickness benefit since 1995. If your daughter is not in full-time education, you'll need to tell us exactly which benefits you get.0

The above sounds about right to me but OP said daughter not yet in uni wants the job to save up for uni so is not in full time education. If not in full time ed then child tax credits stops at 16??? think so anyway. So guessing that yes if living with you her income may well affect your benefits. Being as she is under 25 she wouldn't be entitled to working tax credits either to top that up unless she had a child.0 -

Why would you assume that the daughter is 16 and leaving school if she is saving for uni? Many kids work during sixth form part time to earn money towards uni - but are more than capable of doing this while full time in school. If the daughter is in full time education and then going straight to uni, then child benefit and ctc will continue being paid until August, and then the daughter starts uni in September/October.0 -
If your disability benefits are partly made up of DLA Care (please check the rates as I'm not sure if the lower rate of DLA care is included) anything your daughter earns will not be counted whether she is in education or not.0
