When buy one get one free is more expensive

Was checking out the kids books in Tesco on buy one get one free. One caught my eye so picked it up, selected another one and headed to the check out.

So turns out the book I was picking as my free one was twice as expensive as the one I wanted. Only solution was just to buy the book I wanted and ignore the buy one get one free.

Like with most buy-one gets one frees (or 3 for 2s), the cheapest is the free one.

Tesco have a really great offer on one of their range of houmous at the moment.

Buy one for 95p or two for only £2!

Their website says 95p each or 2 for £2.20

But to be fair they have remembered to temporarily increase the prices of other types of homous included in the offer so you do appear to be saving money as they usually do.

Certainly I could get the difference back but I have better things to do than stand around CS whilst they sort it out.

There's another pricing anomaly that Tesco have that has been going on for months but I'm not going to mention it as I don't want them to sort it out.

Could you not choose a book that was cheaper than the one you wanted so you could still get a freebie?

Most places will only give you the cheapest item as the free one, as stated in the t&cs

This has to be a windup.

If the dearer item was free, everybody would be buying the chepeast book and having the most expensive book for free.

I seriously hope this is a windup, otherwise the OP really shouldn't be allowed out by themselves.

Yes grand expect the one I wanted was not the cheapest one on the shelf but was a different price at the till.

More of a warning to others to make sure that you are getting the good deal you think you are. Clearly in this case it was much more sensible for me to just take the one book.

Or try to find another that was cheaper than the one you wanted, netting yourself a free book.

The book I wanted was discounted at the tills, I had thought it was the most expensive one.

Clearly you and I agree that the only logical thing is to buy the book you want (where it is the cheapest) and not get one free which is what I did.

My point is that for a lot of people this would go against the grain and what seems like a good offer would cost more.
