I assume you mean largest chainwheel/largest sprocket or smallest chainwheel/smallest sprocket? This makes the chain twist, as it's using the left-most chainwheel/right-most sprocket (or vice versa).

Using the largest chainwheel/smallest sprocket is just 'top gear' and is how it's meant to be used.
