Ask Mid

Can I just ask does anyone know how long it should take for your details to be loaded onto AskMid after you change insurers?

I have took out insurance with Autotrader on 21st of the month , so just 2 days ago and have just checked and Askmid is showing that my car is uninsured , now I know it isnt as I have the documents on my pc here but I would feel more content if it was showing on the system as insured.

Is this delay usual? The only number open for Autotrader at the min is the claims line and im not sure if i should ring them or wait until Monday?
The loopy one has gone :j

I think insurers have 7 days to load the info onto MID. If your super worried just carry a print out of your cert in your glovebox for a few days should you get stopped but I think it'd be very very unlikely. They can ring your insurer at roadside anyway.
  • I would like to add to what the previous poster said.

Keeping the insurance in the glove box is usefull. You will have to notify the Police that the car is insured and that you will not surrender it as you have a valid policy.

The reason why I want to add this, is because some people have been known to receive a certificate and then cancel the insurance so that a certificate can be shown to the Police.

I have added a car to the MID and it was updated instantly. Try phoning them back up and see if everything is OK and request to be transfered to the MID team to get it added.

Wasnt a bank holiday when I set the insurance up though ;) . They have had 2/3 days now to update MID . Saying that its a bank holiday isnt going to stop the cops pulling me over when their ANPR goes nuts as I drive past lol.

I vaguely remember reading there is a target of 95% added within 7 days (might even be 14)

According to your OP you took out the policy on 21/4...yes? The 22/4 was a bank holiday...today is saturday, tomorrow is sunday...the day after another bank holiday, all days off....chill! If you're so worried about being pulled make sure you have your insurers phone no. and your policy number on you so the nice policeman can check.

I arranged my new cover two weeks before renewal but it still took the insurer a week after the commencement to update MID.

I check MID regularly and it was showing as uninsured four days into the policy and I was heading for Cornwall the following day. I called them and they told me to take the documentation with me and ask the police to call them if I was stopped.

    Fortunately, I wasn't.

It's always worth keeping your policy number/insurer contact number stored on your phone so you can quickly give it to the police etc
