Thermostat
Options
Thinking of having a Thermostat installed enabling us to control/regulate the temperature throughout our house during the winter months. Our electric/gas bills are quite reasonable as there are only 2 of us in a three bedroom house, obviously the room we don't use the radiators have been turned down to the minimum setting. I have been told that by turning the central heating on/off it will require the pump to have to work alot harder and it will use more gas. I think in the long run it will be more economical and at least in the winter months you can come home to a warm house without having to turn the heating on and wait to it warms up as you can set the temperature.
Just need some feedback from other people about having a thermostat and whether its beneficial, views welcome from anyone working in the Gas Trade.
Thanks,
Garcon6

Depends what you mean by a Thermostat.
You can have individual Thermostatic Radiator Valves on the radiators, or you can have a central one controlling the central heating pump, or a combination of both.
The timer controlling your heating will provide the main control of the boiler. As for leaving the heating on with the thermostat low, it has been discussed on here many times and the arguments for/against usually get quite heated (sorry)!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. OP how do you control your room temperature with your system at the moment? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

The longer you run the system, the more gas it will burn. It may be more comfortable to come home to a warm house, but it will certainly cost you more.
Would you leave your gas cooker on low all day in order to heat up your tea more quickly? No difference. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Some good points we generally turn our heating on/off as and when required as we generally work shifts as well as nights. Obviously its nice to come home to a warm house but quite rightly we will pay for this. The gasman says that it will use the pump more by turning on off as it takes alot longer to warm up etc. I don't think we will worry to much and anyway if we was to have the thermosat to control the centrtal heating it will cost us about £180 so its not cheap.0

Use a programmable room thermostat like the Honeywell CM9070
