Day out at the beach (travelling from Derby)

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice beach that doesn't get too busy, pretty and not too far to drive from Derby, i.e. within 2 and a half hours?

Thanks.

We live in Derbyshire - further North than Derby. We go to Formby, its a massive streach of coastline so you can always find a quiet spot. There's also woodland walks where red squirrels can be spotted.

It's a National Trust area so the car park is free if you're a member.

We'll be going next week to escape the wedding - then to Southport for fish & chips.

AA route planner makes it less than 2 hours from Derby.

    hi

we live in the peaks - north of derby and go either to Formby which is wonderful or if staying overnight to Mabblethorpe...

the only problem with living here is that the sea is so far away!

we did google maps and i was exactly the same time - just over 2 and a half hours to the nearest beach no matter if we went East or West..

Or go the other direction towards Colwyn Bay, it's about 2 and half hours from you. Anywhere along that stretch of the A55 has good beaches.

Another one from near Derby :o

We go to Weston super mare, Cleethorpes , Skegness (although we tend to go to the Lookout rather than the main town...and it is more than 2 hours) Rhyl (sometimes)

Being landlocked....there's not much within 2 1/2 hours to be fair :o
