It might be worth asking the local colleges if they do evening courses for access, ours does- it means doing it over two years instead of one but it still means being able to apply to university eventually.
My DH took access to HE and is now on his teaching degree. All he qualified for during his access course was EMA though, no extra grants or funding available for it.:j BSC #101 :j0 -

Access courses are level 3 courses but that's equivalent to A levels and therefore not HE.
However little you earn, it will be more than benefits and anyway the only full time students who can claim benefits are lone parents and the disabled.
You might be eligible for £30 per week each ALG but your best bet is part time work and tax credits.0
