That only tells us the tax wrapper. It's what is inside that counts - i.e. the actual funds or shares.

Sorry I don't understand. I only know it as an S & S ISA through my bank. I would guess its shares though.

Think of an ISA as a container (wrapper) into which cash and/or stocks, shares, bonds, etc., can be placed in order to minimise tax liability on the items contained within it.

Without knowing the particular items that are in your 'container', nobody can suggest a best course of action.

Since I also have a cash ISA and this is a stocks and shares ISA am pretty sure that there are stocks and shares in this particular ISA. Will find out for sure.

It's a case of finding out which specific stocks/shares/funds, etc., not simply that they are stocks/shares/funds, etc.

Or property or fixed interest securities. There are about 50,000 odd different investments you can put inside of an S&S ISA and an infinite number of variations. Its a bit like saying you have a glass and you are asking us to guess the drink in it with the clue that its a liquid

Thanks for helping to clarify. I've assumed that since I handed over the money to HSBC they will invest it in stocks and shares of their choice. I didn't know I could choose which ones. I've asked them for more info.

If you do decide to move to Hargreaves Lansdown you will have to make the fund choice yourself - there are 2400 to choose from.

    Thanks.

REply from HSBC. My s/s ISA is invested through "HSBC UK Growth & Income fund". I've asked them for precise names of companies invested in and if it can be changed but as stated before I'm no expert and would be reluctant to switch around to other companies for this reason.

This is the fund you have.

The same fund on HL would see an annual management charge saving of 0.15% over HSBC direct.

However this is not necessarily the fund you would choose from HL.

What's the Spread Betting company which allows the least amount to be put down per pip? I find they're usually a minimum of £1.
