Darn royal wedding Hotel rip offs

I went to book a hotel in portsmouth, its a well known "budget" hotel chain, for 2 nights yesterday online only to be quoted £60 PER NIGHT! The nights in question were the 27th and 28th and yes, leaving on the 29th... Total price £120

This suprised me a bit, so I removed the evening of the 28th so we would be leaving on the 28th. The price dropped down to £25 per night... coincidence? hmmm...

So I then tried two seperate bookings, the booking for the 27th was quoted at £25... the booking for the 28th as quoted at a whopping £60 per night!!!!

what a rip off! all because two royals have decided to get married on this day has now made my wife's birthday totally unaffordable!

grrrrr

Supply and demand I'm afraid, they have done what any sane business would have done and raised their prices accordingly. I would have done it as well if I worked in such an industry
  • Absolutley disgusting, we must protest against this capitalist outrage of ripping us all off. I say we should go forth now with our lighted torches. Please make sure you bring your internet enabled camera phones so we can load the destruction we bring straight to u-tubes.

I didn`t know they were getting married in Portsmouth.
I can`t see how a Wednesday and Thursday night in Portsmouth is affected by a royal wedding.

It`s not unusual for Travelodge to have rooms at these prices only a week away.
To get the best deal you need to book at least 3 weeks ahead, better still in their regular sales.
Anyway you could have got it for £85 for two nights.

Some nights are dearer than others. Some flights are dearer than others. You pays yer money and takes yer choices...

It may well be nothing to do with the RW, and more to do with local contractors staying over, or maybe even a high demand for RW knock-on parties. £85/2 nights is still a bit of a bargain!

Nothing new about this, price of hotels will no doubt go up for olympics, pices of holidays during school holidays eg summer etc goes up because the firms know they can get top dollar for them

how much did you expect to pay

edit just realised the hotel was in portsmouth so not sure how the RW affects portsmouth hotels

£85 for 2 nights is pretty cheap, we're paying that for 1 night in a Premier Inn in York next weekend.

I don't think your hotel price is anything to do with the wedding though it's seems like usual price for a hotel.

I'm guessing it's just because that's another long weekend when a lot of people will be going away. The Royal Wedding may have extended that weekend, but it's almost certainly just that you have had the same idea as many other people who are taking advantage of four days off work to get away.
