O S Daily Saturday 23rd April 2011

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday, 23rd April 2011. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Good morning peeps,
Beautiful bright morning here and the birds are singing :)
I looks like a slight Shepherd's warning morning with a beautiful rose pink hue to the horizon.

We are having a big family BBQ today with some relatives from abroad that I have not met before. Done some tidying and cleaning and food preparation. Just need to hoover through again. If the weather stays good the crowd will probably spend most of the time in the garden, fingers crossed!

Braved the supermarket yesterday and it was impossibly crowded. I did manage to find some woopsied fish pie mix for our meal last night. DD1 joined us at the last minute but it stretched to 4 quite easily. Used 3 carrots from the garden:)

Happy Holy Saturday folks. Hugs to those who need or want,
    Cheers, Silver x

    Morning all!

Had a lovely time with my friend and her family yesterday, only dd3 wanted to come, big kids all had other plans, so she brought a friend with her. They played happily and tootled about in the rock pools and I treated them to a lolly! Got home and dd3 went to her friend's house for a bbq, then they both came back here to sleep, and are both still in dreamland.

Today I am going to potter around the house and get out in the garden and finish off the veg beds. Didn't get round to it yesterday as felt very uncomfortable and out of sorts - think I had an overload of hormones lol! Woke up feeling fine though, dawn chorus was replaced this morning by what sounded like a herd of cows on the front garden, not quite so melodic, but I rather like the moo-ing!

Need to do a trawl and inventory of the fridge, and ensure that any bits and bobs are used up, might even venture out to the freezers and make a list of them, but possibly not!

Hope everyone has a great day xxx

    Morning all!
Woken at about 6.30 by the buzzing of a huge wasp which was in behind the curtains. Managed to flick it back outside and close the window, but of course, couldn't shut my eyes again.
Big news is... I actually got off my lazy bum and went to the allotment yday. I was so ashamed of it. Waist high weeds, while all around are nice beds with things growing in them already. As dh had taken the kids out, I spent about 4 hours weeding. Ended up getting lots done and virtually crawled home with hands and arms on fire from nettle stings which went straight through my gloves.
Plan today is to cook in about 10 minutes. Cous cous today for which I will make the sauce and bung it in the slow cooker. Should have it all done by 9 maybe, then I can give them all their brekkie, send the kids off with their dad to football, and get out and tackle the very dry garden.
Then, after lunch, back up to the lottie for more punishment for being so lazy!
My dh won't spend any money on the lottie, but He has to buy me decent gloves and a digging fork. I have planted extra tomato plants and courgettes for him to sell at the car boot, and anything I make will go in my allotment fund.
Hoping to time asda right later to get some bargains. They close at 9, so maybe 6pm. I always seem to get there either when the shelves are empty, and see people with trolleys full of yellow stickers, or too early, so i am wandering round looking for non-existent bargains!

    Morning all
We've been out & watered the veggies, I'll do hubby a cooked breakfast in a while. I've avoided the supermarket so far this weekend, I went to the local shop & bought hummus & some dips to go with the mountains of radish, salad leaves & cress that hubby is growing. I've defrosted the last of the rolled turkey breast from Christmas & cooked a small piece of ham (reduced in the Co-op) to go with it, they should last us for the next few days.
Plans for today include boiling up all my teatowels, how exciting.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning my lovelies :D

Weather seems to have clouded over but not complaining, it's dry and fairly warm so all good here. I wouldn't want to get too much of a tan ;)

Off out with my neighbour for some drinky-poos tonight  bless her she's single and she doesn't really go out much. So I just HAVE to step into the breach and take her out ;) My secret plan is for her to pull a bloke but we'll have to see how the night goes ;)

Have a birthday party to take the kids to at 11am, need to put the vac round, put some more washing on. Might make some chocolate buns (since I don't like hot cross buns :o) and generally potter about. Not sure about tea, need to get my act together on that one :o

Rosie - Well done you going to the lottie :T Why not try on Freecyle or Freegle (depending on what your local group is called) and asking for a fork and some gloves. Or maybe you have a neighbour you could borrow these items off in the mean time? No point struggling or suffering if you don't have to :)

Have a great day everyone, hugs and spoons all round.

I thought it would be a bit cheeky to ask on Freecycle for a fork or gloves, but I will give it a go. Thanks!

You should see some of the requests I've seen. Fork and gloves is very tame in comparison to detailed list of wants <rollseyes>
Just be polite and explain why you want them.

If you don't ask you don't get ;)

    Morning All,

Please don't tell me all about your sunshine and blues skies today, its wet here, I am annoyed as I did loads of work at home yesterday so that I could go outside and work on my weeds in the sun today. :( The boys and I are going to a junior archaeology thing and were planning on doing a Cadbury's Easter Egg trail at the National Trust place near that, but I won't be bothering if the rain keeps up. I will paint DS1's new room instead I think.

Got a bread dough rising just now, and will see what I can make for dinner and lunch today, we are OK for tinned tomatoes :rotfl: but not much else, I shall have to get creative - I am not going to the supermarket until Tuesday if I can help it.

Have a good day everyone, hugs spoons and hi fives all round. Bargainbird, how did OH get on at his interview?
