Just checked their website and it states that all branches were to have a coin machine by end of 2010.
  • RBS Branches will be taken over by Santander in the not so near future.

I know NatWest has these also if you like using these types of machines (I do!)

Why not open an account with them before the devil comes in and takes over your soul? :D

When I enquired I was told that no RBS branches in Manchester had a coin machine. I keep meaning to see if the Natwest machines will accept my coin deposit. The Piccadilly Gardens and Brown street branches of NatWest have these machines.

That's not true at all. It'd be impossible in a good % of branches due to the physical space needed.

If any branch in Manchester will have one itll be Mosley Street.

The branch in St Annes Square has a Cash Deposit Machine however it does not except coins only notes.

If so much space is needed, how do these machines actually work? I.e. are they counted and bagged automatically, or does some poor cashier have to count them out by hand when the branch shuts?

Stclair the Mosley Street branch doesn't have one of these machines. It was they who told me there wasn't one in Manchester. I was surprised that the spinningfields branch didn't even have one.

I guess they won't install any more machines into English branches now that they've been sold to Santander... why pay for the expensive machines when a rival will take over in the next couple of months! Guess you need to change to NatWest...

Or move your account to a Scottish branch.
