Hi Auntie Mabel, just posting to subscribe!
We moved into our forever house a year ago and I'm trying to keep a diary too.
We've got an offset mortgage and I can view it at any time online, just like a current account - it's a shame all mortgages aren't like that - a quick check at the beginning of the weekend keeps me in check!
Good luck - fantastic progress so far

"Come Outside" on Cbeebies. My 3yr old loves it. I don't have the heart to tell him about the bloke with the blond wig and the toy dog when the plane's flying :rotfl:0 -

Maybe it's not the right time to tell the lad that women aren't always quite what they appear at first glance

Hi AuntieMabel

Very easy to get quickly addicted as you can see!! I too read over 100K cashed in and thought *wow*! :rotfl:
Great OPs so far tho- well done!0 -
Hi Auntie Mabel, this is the first chance i'va had to read your diary properly. Well done on the brave decision to cash in your ISA, that was a great OP.
Re: grocery budget, like Pammy said it's good to try and reduce it a little at a time. I also know other MFW pay off any savings straight away i.e. multibuy offers or vouchers used. We have a separate account for food and petrol, it never covers the costs but i try! I for example will be reducing grocery budget as DD now potty trained in the day so saving a fortune on wipes and nappies so will OP the difference, that is until baby 2 arrives in October!
Anyway, lots of luck on your journey - i'm a nurse too.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hi Cath,
Thanks for your comments about grocery shopping. Think what I will do for May is buy my usual stuff (which is generally v. MS anyway) but keep all my receipts so I know exactly how much I've spent so I know what I'm working with. I cook most things from scratch anyway, my spending habits aren't really that lavish on food.
Every day since I made the OP I have been desperate for the paper statement to come from the bank so I know TO THE PENNY how much the mortgage is now so I can update my signature and know we're that bit nearer to being MF. I so wish mortgages could be managed online like current accounts, but then we'd all know how much we're being charged wouldn't we? And they like to keep us in the dark about that wherever poosible
Good to here you're a nurse too. I work in palliative care which I love but it can be very sad, and one thing I would say though is I know we're all really keen to watch those pennies and fling everything at the mortgage, but it's important to keep some perspective and if people being too frugal and life is utterly miserable because of it, then that's taking it too far. We only get one crack at life and it's meant to be fun!!
There ends AuntieMabel's sermon on life for today
