Registry Mechanic Advice Please

Hi

A new icon has appeared on my desktop - Registry Mechanic. I am not aware that I clicked on anything to download it.

Can anyone advise if this is safe and what it is?

Thanks

    Anyone else use your computer?

Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, install and update it, then run a quick scan and post a log here please:

(seems others have had the same problem - it must have a naughty way of installing itself on people's computer)

Just make sure you don't have any malware, and then uninstall registry mechanic. Definitely don't use it - it's far more likely to make things worse than it is to make anything better IMO.

registry mechanic is a PITA, get shut. It's not malicious, but it has been known to delete stuff it shouldn't and by doing so cause system stability or worse issues. For such things, stick with CCleaner and Glary Utilities :)

Registry Mechanic is a piece of software which is installed when you install or update Adobe Shockwaves and by default, is selected to install. This is the most likely way this software got onto your PC. It is safe, but I don't know how effective it is so would just uninstall it, sometimes registry cleaners do more bad than good.

Just keep an eye-out for the checkbox when installing/updating Adobe Shockwaves and uncheck it (im not sure if any other adobe software is bundled with it).
