Mini C Flashing Warning Light

Hi guys,

Noticed a warning light came on today...

It's the exclamation mark one and it flashes constantly when the engine is turned on.

Could this be to do with over heating? If so, what might it be? I can hear the fan is on, but not sure if it's the engine fan or power-steering fan..

Last year I had a problem (cant remember which warning light came on though) and it required replacement of the fan assembly unit as well as the thermostatic controller..

Anyone have any ideas, or suggestions for how I might troubleshoot further? It's an automatic Mini Cooper 2002 btw..

Screenshot of warning light (it flashes): http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i13/thedynamix/warninglight.jpg

Thanks,

TD

Check your tyre pressures and see if you have a puncture. The reset button is near the handbrake.

    Hiya,

What made you suggest it could be a tyre pressure/puncture issue?

    Thanks for the quick reply!

That's a TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) warning light, I think.

Agreed - same symbol as I have on my Z4. As vikingaero says, check the tyre pressures, as it's telling you one of the tyres has a lower pressure than the others.

I'm not being rude, but the manual will tell you what all the symbols mean ...

Yet another reason why the understanding of warning lights should be part of the driving test...

When that light comes on in my car it beeps as well if the tyres need air. After you have put air in you then press and hold the button under the hand brake and the light goes off.

Yes, but do you have a Mini C or a different vehicle.

Sorry, I've got a Mini as well. I had that light come one once though but without the beeping and I had a nail in my tyre and a very slow puncture. Every other time it's just needed air in the tyres.:)

    Thanks for the help guys!

Anyone know how I can find out what the tyre pressures should be?

Only the rear 2 are manufacturer recommended run-flats, while the front 2 or budget tyres..

Don't know about the pressures, but this info probably be on the inside of the driver's door pillar ... again, the manual will tell you where, and what the pressures should be at.

BTW, are the front two tyres run-flats or not? General consensus is that either all 4 tyres should be run-flats, or none at all - not many people think it's safe to have 2 run-flats and two non run-flats, even if both the tyres on each axle are of the same type.

I've ditched my run-flats for regular tyres - much nicer ride now, and I've got a can of Tyreweld plus a compressor in the boot for emergencies ... plus AA membership in case I need a flat-bed truck to get home if a tyres is shredded.
