How many minutes of calls to mobiles do they make? How big are the bills? Generally one of the cheapest is BT pay in advance and using 18185 or similar for most calls. Use MSE's callchecker to compare. If they make a lot of calls to mobiles it's cheaper to get a mobile contract or to look at some Mobile PAYG deals with inclusive free minutes.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

BT may have a solution soon. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3178364
But for a quick fix your friend could use www.18185.co.uk for cheaper mobile calls on his existing line.
If they have a spare mobi Tesco Sim Only 30 day contract may be worth considering. 500 minutes of x-net anytime calls work out at 2p a minute plus 5000 texts etc.
