I recently had an argument with a taxi driver, who drove through a red light and almost into me as I was turning right. He wound down his window, and shouted and swore at me- so I shouted back... Told him he'd need to take his driving test again, and learn to follow road signals.

That aside, I also know some lovely taxi drivers who go out of their way to help people!

My DH has been a cab driver nearly 20 years.

He still drives like "just passed the test perfect driving", he does everything properly & expects everyone else too. I hate having him as a passenger.

Same here. My Hubby is a cabbie and whilst at times I tease him by calling him "the crazy cabbie" he is actually not one of the worst drivers.

I agree though that *some* of them think they own the road!
The loopy one has gone :j

no matter if you did indicate or not there is no excuse for that behaviour. i hate people who don't indicate but normally just beep my horn and grrr.

people not indicating melts my head! really annoys me, and i very very rarely come across a taxi driver who is a good driver. they dirve very fast and very wrecklessly! even when i am in a taxi i feel myself looking for the invisible break every five seconds!

I could quote countless cases of rubbish driving by taxi drivers, but iut's not just them. The standard of driving on our roads seems to be worsening and I'm not innocent myself. The number of times I see cars coming down one way streets in Belfast city centre is horrendous. A lot of people seem to ignore road signs completely, though sometimes there are too many and they're very confusing. Lane markings and no right turn signs are regularly ignored, rant rant rant :-)

bettybelle - you did the right thing by reporting him, but you've already acknowledged that you did the wrong thing by not indicating. Hopefully you will do in future. I'd also suggest that if he was that annoyed, he was probably far closer than you think he was, maybe park your car up and look at cars behind in your mirrors, then get out to see the actual distance.
In any case, the speed that you want to do, and the speed that he wants to do, is your own and his own business.

Actually she has not admitted any such thing - see quote below.

And the speed he drives at would be irrelevant to another road user except when she is using common sense to judge how far away another car is and how long it will take to close the distance between them. Then it is highly relevant as if her assumption turns out to be incorrect solely because of the other drivers excess speed then any accident is the speeding driver's fault.

Whether I was in the wrong or not, his behaviour was abominable. He shouted, swore, flashed his lights, then got out of his car!! I was so afraid I locked my doors. He was like a man possessed!

I know its a case of he says/she says but I saw him indicate, I judged him to be a reasonable distance away for me to pull out too. I didn't anticipate he'd floor the accelerator whilst doing so - there was no need to. Lesson learned there anyway. I maintain I indicated.

it is judged as the dirver behind's fault in a case like that anyway no matter what. it would be his inability to keep a safe distance and drive at an appropriate speed. in my opinion wreckless acceleration is just as dangerous as speeding itself.

Golden Anemone - you're right, I missed the bit at the end and the bit at the start gave the impression that OP hadn't indicated.
In this case I hope that OP has checked that her indicators are working!
Just a few more points - the taxi driver wasn't necessarily speeding, and he is perfectly entitled to accelerate up to the speed limit at whatever rate he likes, as long as he is in control of his vehicle.
Also, if he wasn't actually behind and was beside, it would be OP's fault for changing lane and hitting him.
