Is it ok to put my used washing up water (which therefore contains detergent) on my veggie patch??
Don't want to give my plants any further excuse to die early!!

thanks all

Personally, I wouldn't put kitchen waste water on my garden as it is more likely to contain stronger detergents/bleach. Bath water is ok on ornamentals, your best bet is to set up a water butt (if we ever get any rain again!). This link provides some info.

I don`t use washing up water in the garden, just in the loo. Re waterbutts, thats best and we set up another 3 x 100l ones so can now store about 500l. They are empty as we havent had rain for weeks here. The plants do like rainwater

I have put washing up water in the garden with no ill effects but only on shrubs, and bath water waters the rest of the garden. Fresh water for the pond and anything I'm eating the leaves of.

The down pipes are all on the patio of the ground floor flat so we don't have access to a water butt, so it's hose in the bath, along the hall, down the stairs, then the side alley, pass the other garden entrance then mine.
I so look forward to opening a back door and going straight out into a garden

At one time it used to be the standard treatment for greenfly. Not sure whether it worked or not.

I don't see why you can't use washing up water, and I collect the bath water too.

At one time I was putting the bath water into the water butt, the soap residue in there makes it go quite stinky, so now I just fill up as many watering cans as I can and use it straight away.

I wouldn't use washing up water that contained food debris particles tbh. It might attract vermin and if nothing else it would go rancid on the surface of any plants. Bath water should be okay though.

If you want to conserve water in other ways, use washing up water in the loo.
