I'm no expert in this, but perhaps you could take the new job spec and also write up your duties to match each item line-for-line, eg. in a two column table with colums titled "My job which is being made redundant" and "The new role advertised", by which you could show that there is a high correlation between the two.
As I say, I have no expertise whatsoever in the matter, but it might be useful.
  • Thanks. I think that is a good idea and luckily I also have detailed meeting notes for the last two and a half years between myself and my line manager listing my duties and tasks, which all seem to match.

I think I will also collate the rest of the job descriptions from the organisation at the same grade as this newly suggested one to show that the new grade doesn't reflect the level of skills/experience for the new role.

Any other suggestions for how to tackle the one to one consultation are most welcome!

I think perhaps you have the wrong end of the stick about a few things. I don't work in government, it's a charity. One that has been in surplus for the last 4 years and chose to give 650+ employees a 2% salary uplift this year.

The administrator isn't getting any change in grade or salary at all. She is being asked to do moreorless the same thing.

My role has been re-graded to hers, the name and salary have been lowered but all of the role still exists in it's old form. It has been plain to anyone I have shown it to.

Far from being stroppy, I simply want to go into the consultation knowing what I can expect from it, what I need to ask, and what the next steps should be should I not be satisfied with their justification for a change.

I know redundancy is all too common and rubbish for anyone. All I am simply pointing out is that I don't believe my role is truly being made redundant in the true sense of the word.

I'm very happy to leave, as the environment is unpleasant, to put it mildly. I just question how they have gone about it and I, along with others I have spoken to, see it as not quite a cut and dry redundancy case.

I don't want my job kept at all. As I said before, if they had given me a couple of months extra notice as they were in the position to do so and not gone out of their way to mislead me into thinking the job was safe, I'd turn a blind eye to all of this stiff and walk away.

Sorry - I got the wrong end about the sector.

It was a bit unclear as to the fact your colleague is being asked to do your job/role *and* another role being created. Either way, not a lot she can do about this.

I understand that your colleague isn't going to be getting a change in salary/grade.

Your role in it's current state *is not* being made redundant and your role/duties are being transferred to your colleague. Ok, so there is a grey area here.

To my untrained eye it did sound like you thought things were unfair and you would have preferred your job kept.

Maybe try Citizens Advice or a free 1 hour employment solicitor to arm yourself for advice before your meeting.
