Hi all you moneygurus
My dilemma is I have had a basic account with Santander for many years and am now thinking of taking the plunge and switching as I do not think this gets any interest so to speak off and due to a redundncy hit, to which I have locked away some and invested most in a tax free ISA for this tax year meaning i can not open another ISA, it has left me with quite a bit left in this account thus my decision to more to a current account or basic account that pays a bit of interest untill I can at least move some.
I would want to switch to a current account that I can access easier weather it be via cash machine, internet and or that offers you a debit card for ease of use when paying for items, due to unemployment at the moment the only thing being paid into this account at the moment would be my Job Seekers, which amounts to about £200 per month, thus could anyone on here offer me some advice or suggest a account I could investigate or if there are any other suggestions I would be grateful?
Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

LTSB's Classic account with Vantage offers up to 4% AER on balances between £5k & £7k at the moment (will be up to 3% on balances between £3k & £5k from 27/6/2011) but you have to pay in £1k per month.
The 1k only needs to pass through the account briefly (the time it takes for a mouse-click or two) and could be done in one transaction or several, e.g. £200 JS payment plus 4 x £200 moved in from a savings account that supports Faster Payments, such as Tesco's Internet Saver @ 2.9%, and straight back out.0 -
Apart from having Vantage with Lloyds TSB I don't know of any banks which pay interest anymore on Current Accounts? It just seems saving accounts or ISAs these days!
I know for example Halifax will give you £5 a Month as long as you put in at least £1,000 - You can move money in and out to gain this monthly target and does not have to go in all at once.
Even if you go for a basic account with Barclays, Co-Op or NatWest for example they will all give you a Visa Debit card that won't allow you to go overdrawn.David
