Cat grooming advice

My cat is moulting like crazy. It's a DSH male, with black fur, but white undercoat!?
Anyway, I have a comb, with wide and narrow teeth options, which he tolerates. But it seems to fetch more and more hair out until he's covered in it, and I have a handful from the brush. I've just used a damp towel to remove all the loose hair from the surface.
What tools do you guys use to groom your cats? I'm looking for something that grooms and collects the fur, rather than leaving me with a roomful of fur blowing all over the place!
He's only just adopted me, so it may be the case he hasn't been groomed a lot before and it will settle down after a while. But any advice welcome.

If you have enough fluff to make a second cat, that means you're doing it right, especially as they're all moulting for summer right about now.
I use a furminator - you would not believe how much fur you can get out of one animal.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Hi, I use a Zoom Groom http://www.vetuk.co.uk/cat-accessories-cat-grooming-c-626_643/zoom-groom-cat-p-484 and it's brilliant - not harsh and sore like some brushes can be and really gets through the fur.
You can also get ones for dogs (I use the cat one for both).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000

Have you tried the hoover?! only jokin, although I really think somebody needs to invent a silent one, then the cats probably wouldn't be so adverse to it!
Might be an idea to groom puss outside, makes less mess indoors and the more often you do it, the less hair will come out.
Furminators are good, get one of ebay or amazon as its much cheaper, also mine like the brushes with the bobbles on the end of the teeth, I think its more pleasurable for them instead of harsh metal teeth.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -
We've just got a long haired half ragdoll half Norwegian Forest and are using a Furminator - small brush head with curved teeth that collects the hair - brilliant. We have started him young and he nudges the brush if he thinks we have forgotten each day!

Thanks guys,
I think I'll go with the Furminator, cos I'm a guy, so love gadgets!
My comb does have unbobbled teeth, and so it may be a bit harsh.
Nothing is too good for my little man.

Be prepared to be gobsmacked by the amount of hair if you get a Furminator! I read about them on here recently and got one after using a dozen different brushes and combs over the years. I couldn't believe how much there was! It was like an explosion in a cat hair factory :rotfl:0

I have just ordered a furminator (for kittens) on the strength of this thread. Other half suffers with allergies, so hoping this will help!!!0

I find a two-pronged attack of Furrminator and Zoom groom, one in each hand, to be the most productive. Watch out for the bald spots after though!!!0
