Someone "bought" my item a while ago but all I am getting on the summary is a little hourglass with the above message when I hover over it.

Someone "bought" my item a while ago but all I am getting on the summary is a little hourglass with the above message when I hover over it. I did a search on MSE and couldn't find anything, a google search got me some answers (that I definitely shouldn't dispatch the item) but it has been what, 9 days now, and I am just wondering what I should do. The link next to the summary says "Claim your payment" but that just simply logs me onto PayPal and does nothing.

    Oh dear

If it requires claiming then you gave the wrong paypal address, it is usually because you've mistyped a single digit or put .com instead of co.uk or similar. If you look you should eb able ot see what you typed and if possible claim that email address and add it to your paypal account.

You need to be pro active here as buyer may well not relaise you made this error and is wondering why they haven't got their goods after so long. If you can't add the email as above then get in touch with buyer immediately, apologise a bit and ask them to cancel their payment. Explain there is an error and ask them really nicely if you can send a revised invoice showing the correct paypal ID. If so, issue a new invoice using 'request money' from your paypal account, make sure you state the goods they are paying for.

If buyer refuses, and some do especially having waited so long there is little you can do as if you try and raise an NPB they can appeal on the basis they have already paid and you could not accept payment.

    Hi,

I'm still unsure as to what I should do, and am still unsure as to what error has been made. I have sold a few items on eBay and I have literally done nothing along the lines of requesting the money, the buyer has simply paid and I have received the funds in my PayPal with no problem at all. I do not know why this is different. Where exactly would be this thing that I mistyped?

I have also sent the user a message on the 16th saying that I have not received any money but there has been no reply.

You enter the paypal address on each listing, so if for any reason that was typed incorrectly it will show as unclaimed as it has gone to an invalid paypal ID. Did you list direct on ebay or via Turbolister?

I would also stop any attempt to suggest that buyer has not paid, they have and as you will need their coperation to get this sorted I would suggest a bit of grovelling. The may not have replied if they don't log in very often, I use a couple of buying accounts and one only gets checked when I am missing a parcel.

The only other possibility , and i don't think it can be this as it should show a message when you log into paypal is that you have not got a premier account. When you have received payment in the past did you always pay a fee?

One thing you can try is to log into ebay and follow the link to 'view paypal payment' and log in via that link. Sometimes if it has gone to the wrong address it shows a message when you log into paypal along the lines of 'you need to view the correct paypal account for this payment.

As far as I can remember, I didn't do this. Where would I be able to see said email address used?

I just tried this. It directs me to a PayPal webpage which says:

    "Sign up with PayPal
    Error Message
You've received a PayPal payment. Complete this PayPal sign-up form to claim your funds.

    Your country or region

    Your language
    English"

There is no option to log in on this page, only to sign up.

Nevermind, the problem has been solved. I spent about 20 minutes googling random things and found this little gem:

"To check which PayPal email address was used in the eBay listing, click on the "Relist" link for that item and look in the payments section for the PayPal email address."

And I had entered a small typo in the email.. embarrassing (serves me right for having a very complicated email) :( now I will contact the buyer asking her to cancel and then pay it to the correct email address.

thanks guys. The answer is simples, I had the same problem. I had inadvertantly entered a different email address under the payment section.. If you own the email address that you entered you simply:
Login to your main paypal account and click profile and add the email address to your paypal account. If you don't own the email address; you have to get the buyer to cancel and start over with correct email address.

    Really easy fix

To save time and misunderstandings, I would recommend always calling buyer to sort out such issues, as e-mails sometimes go missing and can get misunderstood!

Sometimes one phone call, can save you of 10 e-mails!
