RBS Manchester Business Account Centre

I received a lovely threatening letter yesterday (dated 14/4) informing me that they had recently served a notice on me (not received) and that I had failed to comply so they are terminating overdraft arrangement and demand payment not later than close of business today (22/4).

I knew this was coming, I do not dispute and have been phoning regularly to make a payment arrangement and have been told that it was waiting to go to collections but they had a backlog.

I have tried phoning the number from the letter 0845 9000 649 but it is answered by Lombards who are closed today. Does anyone have a correct/alternative number?

I wish to arrange a payment plan, although I will dispute the amount of interest charges incurred as they have kept this open for much longer than acceptable and have doubled what I originally owed in this time.

Thank you for any numbers and/or advice.

Today is a bank holiday, which will explain why they are closed. I assume that the account has been open longer than you consider acceptable because you owe them money. Why should they stop charging you interest? I suggest you wait until they open on Tuesday.

pmduk , it is called 'duty of care' to vulnerable customers, if I am correct, a legal requirement. I had explained to the bank my situation before it came to this. I am happy to pay what I owe with interest, but how can it be justifiable to refuse to accept/make a payment offer and continue to pile on interest to double the amount originally owed. I am aware it is a bank holiday it was in the letter giving a cut off date as yesterday, not my date. I am not looking to avoid payment.

Can a business even be described as a "vulnerable" customer? Many of the protections offered to consumers don't extend to business customers
  • I have also received these highly unpleasant letters from my bank, what makes me so mad is that no-one has contacted me either by letter or phone about the state of my accounts, when the letter states that they have been unable to resolve the problems with me, but it is impossible to get through on the phone due to "high volume of calls". What am I supposed to do? I have sent a recorded letter, but still have heard nothing. I am very stressed out.....
  • It is a personal account.

I find banks so frustrating to deal with. I feel that they can be as obstructive as possible at times.
