I never get a courgette glut so if I had space, I would grow 32 plants as well though. It's nice to dream...

Sorry just reread my OP and realized I didn't explain myself.....I mentioned the 32 seed prop to help visualize how small a space they were currently in.......sorry for the confusion.....7 tha have lived is plenty :rotfl:

  • I have a similar problem with a glut of butternut squash plants.
I decided in my ultimate wisdom that intead of buying a packet of seeds I would buy a butternut squash, use as part of a meal and plant some of the seeds.
I did plant up quite a large tray as I thought I could pass some plants on to friends, neighbours etc.
At the last count I had 68 little butternut squash plants I can't believe that almost every single one has sprouted!!
Anyhow the original one only cost me 51p so it was worth while only the problem I now have is that I see each one like a little life and can't throw them away.

Mine are outgrowing their 3" pots already after only a week but it's far too early to plant them out yet so I will either repot them into bigger pots as they're very hungry feeders and develop big root systems, or I'll plant them out in their final position and cover them with one of the those huge drinking water containers which has had the end sawn off. If your plants are not too big, for a while one of the big square mineral water bottles (5 litres?) with the end sawn off will be a very effective mini cloche.

I'm anticipating Mange Tout overload... bought some, then had some seeds so it would have been rude not to - it's like Day of the Triffids!

my dad grows 1 plant per hexagonal patio pot the 12-14 inch ones. He likes the flowers. He sows in yog pots the up to a 3 inch pot then the tub end of may. no idea if its 'correct' but works for him

I sow my courgettes and all squashes - 3 seeds to a 3 inch pot. As soon as they show their seed leaves, they get oiked out and put into 6 inch pots - they grow pretty fast and I already have 8 in the ground at the lottie and put 3 out last night in the garden....I am sticking to about 5 max courgettes this year, the rest are a mix of summer squashes and winter ones.....

I counted 77 3 weeks ago, so I am giving loads away to people at the mo.....I took 12 to school this week and heeled them in to be transplanted next week.....I want a good range and had lots of old seed so I was also testing germination and the result was, they are fine!

And to add insult to injury, I got my GO Member's Experiments through yesterday and it includes, courgettes to grow - at least 3 needed. AARRGGHH......
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
