Why you should always search around at car insurance renewal time.

I had my car insurance renewal through the post yesterday morning. I'm 21 and have been driving for 1 year so I was expecting it to be around the £1200 mark. However, I was pleased to see that it came in lower than expected at around £1080. I thought I would search around anyway to see if I could find any better deals and decided to go onto my current insurers website (Bell) and pretend I was a new customer with the same details as the renewal. I was shocked to see that it lowered to £810! I then got a quote from Admiral for just £760 with exactly the same cover which Bell have now matched.

So my car insurance is £440 lower than I thought it would be and £320 cheaper than my renewal. That's quite a saving! :j:beer:

Always make sure you search around when you get your renewal through the post because it could save you hundreds. That saving should now pay for the service, MOT and two new rear tyres which are due on my car. :)

I totally aggree, I got a renewal quote from elephant which totalled £581 which I thought was a bit steep as I have 8 years NCB, have a clean licence and have had not accidents/convictions.

I shoped around using the comparison sites and was quoted £399 by Admiral (which I thought was a bit strange since it is affiliated with elephant). I then phoned a local broker who was able to get me more cover (incl breakdown) for £390. I was well chuffed.

    Always shop around!

I always do this, have done for the last 7 years and not once I have stayed with the same insurer for 2 years in a row.
